The system begins with the hunter who delivers the harvested deer to a participating meat processor. Monetary donations to FHFH cover the costs of the processing, packaging and freezing the meat. The meat is then available free of cost for pick-up to local food banks and feeding programs such as: church pantries, church feeding ministries, Salvation Army, food as medicine banks, emergency assistance programs, Rescue Missions, children’s homes, etc.

Lemongrass. In Thailand, lemongrass is used in many different Thai foods. It’s particularly common in soups (especially the Thai favorite Tom Kha Gai), where the pungent smell quickly becomes familiar. My Thai friends tell me it’s good for colds and fever, for arthritis and it removes toxins from your liver, bladder and kidneys. In Thailand, it’s also available as lemongrass juice, which is drunk with sugar. It’s also widely used in soaps as it cleans the skin very well, and as an insect repellent – especially useful in a country that has so many mosquitoes.

I was particularly struck by Obama’s message that we need to each be personally responsible as we bring about the change that we want to see. I suspect this will take on new meaning in the months ahead, but right away I can see how it applies to health and making responsible choices.
